BLACK GOLD is an exhibition of a recent works by Vincent Leow. This new series of work is one of the series done in woodcut prints on paper and will be presented as an installation.
Vincent¡¯s current exploration in traditional woodcut saw the realization of this new body of ten prints, printed from the same wood block, using a reduction method to achieve the colours on the work. This series of prints comes in an edition of 10.
During the process of producing the prints, Vincent has adopted the idea of process and the production of similar edition but at the same time, the imperfection of each piece reveals another dimension, making each print different.
The work attempts to portray a person¡¯s journey that may feel the same but not entirely the same. In the work, ¡°Black Gold¡± is an image of a skull within the silhouette of a human head wearing a crown on a camouflage background. It attempts to portray through the different layers on the print, a sense of celebration, vanity, disguise and death.
